Testing of Mahindra Vision S SUV started: New powerful car coming to compete with Tata Punch, will get features like ADAS
Automobile Desk – Mahindra & Mahindra, famous for its powerful SUVs in the Indian automobile market, is preparing to make another blast soon. After the huge success of the recently launched XUV 3XO, the company is now planning a strategy to launch the Vision S SUV in the market. Recently, the production version (testing model) of this vehicle has been seen being tested in hilly areas, due to which many of its major features and design details have come to light. Auto experts believe that this new SUV from Mahindra will directly challenge Tata Punch in the micro/sub-compact segment.
Glimpse seen during testing on the mountains
During testing on hilly and difficult roads, the rough-and-tough avatar of this SUV was clearly visible. Mahindra has kept its overall look quite muscular and boxy.

- New Front Facia: The front of the car has attractive 7-shaped LED DRLs, new signature LED headlamps and Mahindra’s signature aggressive front grille.
- Off-roading look: Its ground clearance looks much better. The spare wheel (Stepney) mounted on the tailgate at the rear gives it a real sporty and powerful SUV feel.
- Alloy Wheels: The design of the alloy wheels seen in the testing model seems to be inspired by the XUV700, although slight changes can be seen in the final model.
ADAS Level-2 and Advanced Safety Features
Mahindra is in no mood to compromise on safety. A cut-out for the camera and radar sensor in the front bumper has been seen on the windshield of the testing model. This clearly indicates that advanced safety features like Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) will be provided in Vision S. Apart from this, it is expected to get safety features like multiple airbags, ABS with EBD and 360-degree camera.
Premium interior and high-tech cabin
According to reports, the cabin of this SUV will be quite modern and premium. Inside, customers will get to see features like large touchscreen infotainment system and full digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, connected car technology and ambient lighting.
New platform and powerful engine option
Mahindra is preparing this new vehicle on the new NU-IQ platform. It is a modular platform, which means that many types of fuel options can be given in it.
- Engine Options: The company can offer it in petrol, diesel and all-electric (EV) avatars.
- Hybrid and AWD: Keeping in mind the future needs, it can also be given the option of hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive (AWD) in select variants.
When will it be launched?
At present, its official launch date has not been announced by Mahindra, but looking at the media reports and the pace of testing, it is being estimated that its final production model may be seen running on Indian roads by 2027. This new bet of Mahindra in the segment of vehicles like Tata Punch and Hyundai Exeter can change the market equation.
