Rescued Elephant Amid Heavy Rain In Nagaland Dikhow River Assam: Many states of India are currently in the grip of severe monsoon and floods, where the situation in Gujarat and Assam remains extremely worrying. The torrential rains in the last few days have completely disrupted life. According to the data, 35 people have lost their lives in flood and rain-related incidents in the last two days in Gujarat alone, while the death toll in Assam has reached 61.
Record breaking rain in Patan and Radhanpur
The fierce form of Indradev is being seen in many districts of Gujarat. Santalpur taluka of Patan district of the state recorded 381 mm rainfall in just 24 hours till Saturday morning, while Radhanpur received 342 mm rainfall. Due to more than 250 mm of rain in 173 talukas of the state, low-lying areas have been flooded. The administration has issued a red alert for Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana in North Gujarat and Surendranagar and Morbi in Saurashtra. However, it is a matter of relief that the pace of rain has slowed down a bit in South Gujarat and the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam has been filled up to 68 percent.
Rescue of more than seven thousand
Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing to save the people trapped in the flood. Till now, about 42 thousand people have been evacuated to safe places in the state. Along with 18 teams of NDRF and 32 teams of SDRF, Indian Army has also been deployed in many sensitive areas.
In Dholka taluka of Ahmedabad, NDRF rescued 103 people, while in Navsari, 120 villagers were brought out from the clutches of death. An example of humanity was seen in Bhetawada village of Ahmedabad, where NDRF personnel took a pregnant woman suffering from labor pain to 108 ambulance by boat and saved her life.
Seven lakh people affected in Assam
The flood havoc in Assam is not showing any signs of stopping. More than 7.05 lakh people in nine districts of the state are affected by this disaster. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over phone and assured all possible help from the Centre. The central government is working closely with the state administration for relief and rehabilitation.
Miraculous rescue of elephant washed away from Nagaland
Amidst this flood tragedy, a good news came from Sivasagar district of Assam. A 53-year-old domesticated elephant, which had come from the hills of Nagaland, was trapped in the strong currents of the Dikho river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra. The forest department and veterinary team took immediate action and rescued the elephant safely near Nazira. After treatment, the elephant is now out of danger and is resting under the care of officials.

Distribution of financial assistance in Palghar, Maharashtra
The impact of floods is not limited to Gujarat and Assam only. 20 people had died in floods in Maharashtra’s Palghar district earlier this month. The administration has now intensified providing financial assistance to the families of the victims. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh has been sanctioned for each eligible family, out of which assistance has been provided to eight families.
At present, the administration and rescue teams are fully prepared, but the warning from the Meteorological Department has increased the concern of the people. The next few days are going to be very important for these states.
