Trump hits out at HWANB visa fee. President Trump’s decision to increase visa fees was not accepted by the US court. On Friday, the US Federal Court announced that the administration’s proposal to raise the HWNB visa fee to $100,000 for foreign workers is being rejected.
On June 8, the US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston similarly overturned the worker visa fee hike as unethical. 20 pro-Democrat attorneys general approached the court on this issue. The court was informed that the new tax structure was decided without the approval of Congress. A three-judge panel upheld the petition. The H-1B visa fee for highly skilled workers through this visa was set at $100,000. California and 19 other states filed a legal challenge to the fee in court. The states in the Boston case argued that the policy would hinder the hiring of elementary and secondary teachers and public college and university staff. It will also disrupt academic research and reduce the number of medical staff.
In September last year, Trump added a $100,000 fee to new H-1B visa applications overnight without congressional approval. However, after the court’s decision came forward, the White House spokesman said that a counter-appeal would be filed. Diaspora Indians welcomed the US court’s decision.
