Bacon is tastier if you add common ingredient to the pan before cooking
Bacon is a simple breakfast, usually made on lazy mornings when you want a big buttery sandwich to start the day, but it can often turn out burned if you cook it in oil. It may seem obvious to fry bacon, but it can often lead to grease splattering everywhere, filling the kitchen with smoke and burning the pan, so you have to scrub at it for ages.
Oil might be the most common way to make bacon, but it actually cooks it too quickly, which can cause the edges to burn before the pink middle is ready to eat. This often results in bacon that is both singed, soggy and really greasy as the oil tends to drown the natural flavour of the bacon, so you never actually taste it properly. However, Chuckie Hessong, a cooking class teacher and founder of Laughing Rooster Eatshas shared there is a simpler way to cook bacon as it will turn out so much better if you use water instead of oil.
Chuckie said: “Boiled Bacon creates a meaty, crispy, tender bacon — every time without making a big ol’ mess of my stove or stinking up my house, hair, and clothes.”
Cooking bacon in water might sound absolutely bizarre, but adding just a little water to the frying pan actually helps make it much crisper and easier to cook.
Bacon is really fatty, and all that fat should naturally melt from the meat when it is heated up and render so the bacon will cooks itself. However, when you add oil to a pan, the white fat tends to cook faster than the pink meat, so you end up with charred edges before the middle of the bacon is fully cooked.
It simply stops the bacon burning, helps it have a much better texture and stops the oil from scorching the pan so you will not be left scrubbing at the dishes after cooking breakfast.
How to make tastier bacon
To begin, place the bacon in a cold frying pan, and do not worry if it overlaps or touches each other, as the strips will shrink as they cook.
Add a little water to the pan. You just need enough to barely cover the bacon, but be careful not to add too much, otherwise you will boil instead of frying it.
Place the pan on a high heat until the water begins bubbling, then reduce to medium and wait for all the water to cook away.
Wait for the bacon to start sizzling, and let it cook for roughly two minutes until it is as crispy as you like it. Flip the bacon halfway through so the other side cooks as well.
