Not 25, now MP-MLA will be able to contest elections in 21 years! Revanth Reddy’s big announcement

Tezzbuzz Desk – Telangana government will call a special session of the assembly and pass a proposal to raise the minimum age for contesting elections to 21 years. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that Gen Z should get more representation in the country’s politics.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made a big announcement regarding increasing political participation of youth. He said that the state government will call a special session of the Assembly and Legislative Council in the first week of August. During this time, a resolution will be passed demanding the Central Government to reduce the minimum age for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from 25 years to 21 years. At the same time, a proposal to reduce the minimum age for Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha from 30 years to 25 years will also be sent to the Centre.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said Gen Z accounts for about 30 per cent of the country’s total population, but their representation in Parliament and assemblies is less than one per cent. He believes that youth should get more opportunities in policy making, because the ideas of the new generation can play an important role in taking the country forward.

Revanth Reddy said that in countries like Germany, Great Britain and Singapore, even young youth get the opportunity to move forward in politics. He raised the question that when other democratic countries can give leadership opportunity to the youth, then why cannot India do the same. He advocated amending the Constitution to allow contesting of MLA and MP elections at the age of 21 years.

Mentioned about Gen Z movement

While addressing the candle march organized regarding the NEET 2026 paper leak issue, the Chief Minister said that the youth movement has given a big message across the country. He claimed that the united voice of Gen Z put pressure on the central government and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign from his post. He told the youth that if they want change in the system then they will have to ensure their participation from the streets to the Parliament.

Big thing said about Rahul Gandhi also

Revanth Reddy said he would also discuss the issue with Congress MP and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. He said that if Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister in future, he will try to ensure that a young leader coming from Gen Z gets the opportunity to become the Union Education Minister.

State Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, several ministers, Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders and a large number of youth participated in this candle march organized under the leadership of the Chief Minister. During this, many demands were raised regarding increasing political participation of youth and improving the education system.
