- Maruti Alto sales rose 105.91% to 10,388 units in June.
- Hyundai i20 sales recorded a sharp decline of 51.70% to 1,828 units.
- Maruti Suzuki grabbed 72.19% of the hatchback market by selling 57,332 cars in June.
In June 2026, hatchback car sales in India have seen a good year-on-year growth. The 16 leading hatchback models in the market have sold a total of 79,419 units, a growth of 17.27% compared to June 2025. However, compared to May 2026, monthly sales have declined by 14.45%. Also, 2,68,163 hatchback cars were sold in the second quarter of the current year, which is a huge increase of 24.15% compared to the same quarter last year.
Maruti AltoA powerful reentry
Maruti Alto has made the biggest bang in this entire statistics. Alto sold 10,388 units in June 2026, which is a whopping 105.91% higher than June last year. Coming to the second quarter, the Alto has almost doubled its sales this year, selling 31,131 units as against 15,626 units last year. This spurt in demand for the Alto is believed to be due to the reduction in GST rates on small cars.

Other leading hatchback cars
Maruti WagonR continued to lead the way with 31.11% year-on-year growth, selling 16,952 units. Maruti Swift is second with 15,215 units and Maruti Baleno is third with 12,488 units. Apart from this, Tata Tiago registered a year-on-year growth of 21.50% with sales of 7,329 units, while Hyundai Grand i10 Nios sold 4,865 units and Toyota Glanza sold 3,512 units.
Hyundai i20 And behind Tata Altroz
While overall sales in the hatchback market have been rising, some popular cars have taken a hit. The Hyundai i20 saw a steep decline of 51.70% YoY and 61.51% MoM with just 1,828 units sold. Tata Altroz sales, on the other hand, declined by 38.95% year-on-year to 2,426 units. Maruti Celerio and S-Presso also saw a decline in sales, while sales of Citroen C3 (707 units) and Renault Kwid (492 units) improved marginally.

Maruti Suzuki dominates the hatchback segment
Maruti Suzuki alone sold 57,332 hatchbacks in June 2026 (27.10% yoy growth), taking Maruti’s share to a whopping 72.19% in the entire hatchback segment. Tata Motors is second with 9,755 units with 12.28% market share, while Hyundai is third with 6,693 units. As per the overall figures for the second quarter, Maruti has once again proved its dominance in the hatchback market by capturing a whopping 75.98% market share.
