There is no degree college in Jagdishpur, questions are being raised on the future of youth.

Jagdishpur (Bhagalpur) – Despite Bihar Government’s “One degree college in every block” scheme, till date not a single government degree college has been established in Jagdishpur block of Bhagalpur district. Due to this, after completing intermediate studies, thousands of students have to turn to colleges in Bhagalpur and other districts for higher education.

Since the distance of the nearest degree college from the block headquarters is about 20 kilometers, students have to cover long distances every day. Many students from economically weak families are forced to leave higher education midway. Jagdishpur lacks degree colleges as well as B.Ed., Nursing, Polytechnic and other technical and professional educational institutions.

Local people say that this is affecting the educational and employment opportunities of the youth of the area. Villagers claim that years ago many ryots of the area had donated some part of their land for the construction of a college, keeping in mind the education of future generations. About four acres of donated land is located in front of the block headquarters. Villagers say that no clear initiative has been taken regarding the use of this land and the establishment of a college.

Local resident Kundan Kumar Panjiara said that a government degree college should be established in Jagdishpur soon and an impartial investigation should be conducted on the land donated for the college. Raman Kumar Sah said that education is the right of every youth and students of Jagdishpur should also get proper facilities for higher education. He also demanded the establishment of technical and vocational educational institutions in the area.
