NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh Gets Six-Month Extension; ACC Issues Official Order
New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a six-month extension in the tenure of Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NTPC Limited, beyond his current term ending on July 31, 2026.
According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on July 27, 2026, the extension has been granted on a contract basis for a period of six months, effective from August 1, 2026.

The order states that Gurdeep Singh will continue as CMD of NTPC until January 31, 2027, or until the regular incumbent assumes charge of the post, or until further orders are issued, whichever is earlier.
The proposal for the extension was submitted by the Ministry of Power and received the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Gurdeep Singh has been at the helm of India’s largest power generation company and has played a key role in steering NTPC’s expansion in thermal, renewable, and green energy sectors. The extension is expected to provide continuity in the company’s ongoing strategic projects and energy transition initiatives.
The official order was issued by Aman Kumar Sinha, Under Secretary to the Government of India, from the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Department of Personnel & Training.
