New Delhi: This time on the 80th Independence Day, the weather of Delhi may be slightly different. When PM Narendra Modi will address the nation by hoisting the tricolor flag from the Red Fort, there is a possibility of cloudy sky and light rain. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain for the morning of August 15.
IMD forecast: Light rain in the early morning
According to IMD, Delhi will generally be cloudy throughout the day on August 15.
- 4 am to 6 am: Very light rain up to 5 mm, probability 70%
- 6 to 9 am: Light rain up to 2-3 mm, probability 60%
- Afternoon to evening: Again around 3 mm rain, probability 60%
This means there will be no heavy rain at the time of the ceremony, but drizzle can affect the atmosphere around the Red Fort.
The series will start from the night of 14th August
Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather said that the rain can start from the night of 14th August and continue till the morning of 15th August. He told PTI that right now the monsoon trough is towards the south, but around August 15 it will move towards the north-west.
There is also a possibility of formation of a low pressure area over south-eastern UP and northern Chhattisgarh. According to Palawat, due to the presence of the monsoon trough line over the Indo-Gangetic plains, Delhi may receive light to moderate rain on the morning of August 15. Drizzle may continue in some areas even after the morning.
Chances of rain in Punjab, Haryana, UP also
Rain is not limited to Delhi only. IMD on 14-15 August in Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab and Delhi "much wider than" Rain is predicted. Western Uttar Pradesh may also receive good rain on August 15. Between 14th and 18th August, isolated heavy rains are also possible in these areas. That means the entire northern plains will be in the grip of active monsoon.
How will the temperature and wind be?
Despite the rain, there will be respite from the heat. The maximum temperature in Delhi can be between 32 to 34 degrees and the minimum can be between 23 to 25 degrees. The minimum temperature is expected to be 1.6 to 3.1 degrees below normal. The wind will blow from north-west at a speed of 10 km/h in the morning.
It may increase to 20 km/hr in the afternoon. In the evening the speed will reduce to 18 km/hr and direction west. Due to clouds, light rain and pleasant temperature, this time the weather of Independence Day may not seem humid but quite pleasant.
