New Delhi: The Karnataka government has finally divided the departments of the new cabinet. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has kept the most important departments like Finance, Law, Intelligence with him. Departments like education, health, irrigation, agriculture and municipal administration have been distributed among a total of 23 ministers.
Shivkumar has the most powerful departments
CM DK Shivakumar has been entrusted with the most important departments of the government. He will now hold the portfolios of Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Intelligence, Information, Law, Justice and Human Rights.
Apart from this, he will also handle parliamentary work, agricultural marketing, town and country planning, all urban local bodies under BDA and BMRDA. The responsibility of the departments which have not been divided yet will remain with the CM for the time being.
Who got welfare, health and education
This is how the welfare and social departments have been divided in the cabinet.
1. U.T. Khadar: Minority Welfare, Haj and Waqf, Health and Family Welfare
2. K.H. Muniyappa: Social Welfare
3. Shivraj Tangdagi: Backward Class Welfare, Kannada and Culture
4. T. Raghumurthy: ST Welfare
5. Madhu Bangarappa: Primary and Secondary Education
6. Basavaraj Rai Reddy: Higher Education
Ramalinga Reddy has been given the Forest, Ecology and Environment portfolio.
Responsibility of Irrigation, Agriculture and Industry: Important departments related to the economy of the state have also been divided.
1. Cheluvarayaswami: Major and Medium Irrigation
2. Dr. Ajay Singh: Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology
3. Narendra Swami: Agriculture
4. Laxman Savadi: Co-operation – Agricultural Marketing to CM
5. Rudrappa Manappa Lamani: Sugar and Textiles
6. Vijayanand Kashappanavar: Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises
7. Santosh Lad: Labor and Employment
8. S.S. Mallikarjuna: Mines, Geology and Horticulture
Housing, Food and Municipal Administration
B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan has got the housing portfolio. Rizwan Arshad will look after food, civil supplies and consumer affairs. HC Balkrishna has been entrusted with the city administration and B. Nagendra will handle the planning and statistics department.
Apart from this, Shivalinga Gowda was given excise duty from finance, Puttaranga Shetty from animal husbandry and silk, and K.S. Basavantappa has been given the portfolios of Muzaffarpur, Fisheries, Ports and Inland Waterways.
With this division, all the 23 ministers of the new cabinet have got portfolios. The CM has kept the command of the government in his hands by keeping departments like Finance, Law, Intelligence, Information and Town Planning with him. Now all the ministers have the responsibility of showing work in their respective departments.
