Farmers' march to Delhi stopped, Khanauri border sealed; 51 farmers in custody, announced to hold out till August 29

Jind. In view of the announcement of farmers of Punjab marching to Delhi, the Jind administration of Haryana made four-layer security arrangements at Datasingh Wala (Khanauri) border and sealed the border. On Sunday, 51 farmers who arrived from Punjab to go to Delhi were not allowed entry into Haryana. During this, two rounds of talks took place between the farmer leaders and the administration for about one and a half hours, but no consensus could be reached between the two parties.

Farmers are adamant on their demand for talks with the Union Agriculture Minister and cancellation of the proposed trade deal. A proposal was made by the administration to reduce the number of farmers and hold talks with the Chief Minister, but the farmer leaders rejected it.

Farmer leaders say that their movement is related to the trade deal, hence there should be talks with the Central Agriculture Minister on this issue.

Conversation with five-member delegation-
When the group of farmers from Punjab moved towards Haryana on Sunday afternoon, the administration called a five-member delegation of farmer leaders for talks. Kaka Singh Kotra, Baldev Singh Sarsa, Inderjit Panniwal, Sukhdev Bhojraj and Amanjit Singh Arora were included in this.

Jind DC Dr. Vaishali Sharma and SP Kuldeep Singh proposed to reduce the number of farmers and hold talks with the Chief Minister, but the farmer leaders said that they would stick to their demands.

Announcement to remain on the border till 29th August-
After the talks failed, the farmer leaders returned to Punjab and camped at the Khanauri-Datasingh border. The farmers made it clear that their aim is to reach Delhi on foot and they will remain at the border till August 29 until their demands are met.

51 farmers of Haryana in custody-
Police detained 33 farmers from Haryana who were moving towards Delhi. At the same time, 18 farmers going towards the border from Kaithal under the leadership of farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar were also taken into custody by the police. In this way a total of 51 farmers were detained.

Farmers on Sunday collected soil from the spot in Khanauri where Shubhakaran Singh died on February 21, 2024. Farmers are talking about taking this soil to Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

This padyatra is being started by non-SKM farmer organizations under the leadership of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Security arrangements have been tightened on the border and the administration is constantly monitoring the situation.
