Chief Minister should personally meet the students and end the agitation: Rahul Gandhi

Ranchi, 17 August. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, urging him to personally meet the representatives of the agitating students to resolve the ongoing student agitation in the state. Rahul Gandhi has said that the Chief Minister’s direct interaction with the students will further strengthen the government’s commitment towards resolving the pending issues.

Ranchi Metropolitan Congress President Kumar Raja handed over this letter written on August 14 to Hemant Soren after reaching the Chief Minister’s residence late Sunday evening. This letter became public on Monday. Rahul Gandhi has said in the letter that protesting peacefully is a right given in the Indian Constitution and it has an important role in democracy.

Rahul Gandhi justified the demands of the agitating students in Jharkhand and said that the government should listen to them with sensitivity. He also praised the Jharkhand government for constituting a committee to discuss the demands of the students and starting the process of dialogue.

According to Rahul Gandhi, many demands have been agreed upon during the talks, but despite this some students are still on indefinite hunger strike. In such a situation, it is necessary to resolve the entire matter quickly. Rahul Gandhi urged the Chief Minister to personally visit the protest site or personally meet the students’ delegation and listen to their problems.

He said that the direct initiative of the Chief Minister will instill confidence among the students and will help in resolving the remaining issues. In the letter, Rahul Gandhi also targeted the BJP government at the Centre. He alleged that the influence of RSS and BJP on the country’s education system has increased and it is being used to suppress students.

Rahul Gandhi said that the youth of the country are the future of India and it is important to show solidarity with them during the current crisis. Students have been agitating in Ranchi for the last 24 days against the irregularities in the recruitment examinations of JPSC and JSSC in Jharkhand.

The agitators are demanding cancellation of JSSC-CGL exams and a CBI inquiry into irregularities in the recruitment exams. Meanwhile, the state government has once again called the delegation of agitating students for talks at 2 pm on Monday.

Earlier, in the talks held between the government and the students, many demands related to examination reforms were agreed upon. The government has also announced the cancellation of 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and backlog Civil Services Examination.

However, there is still a deadlock over the demand for cancellation of JSSC-CGL examination and CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities. In such a situation, Rahul Gandhi’s request to the Chief Minister to personally meet the students is being considered important amid the talks to be held on Monday.
