story of kaliya snake

The second story in Hindu religion is that of Kaliya Naag. Devotees should know about this story on the day of Nag Panchami. According to the legend, Kaliya Naga lived in the river Yamuna because Garuda wanted to kill him. To escape from Garuda, Kaliya Naga started living in Yamuna river.

 

Once Krishna ji was playing ball with his friends on the banks of river Yamuna. Then the ball fell into the river, after which Krishna ji went into the river and drowned. After this, Kaliya Nag surrounded him from all sides. Lord Krishna fought fiercely with Kaliya Naga. Then Lord Krishna defeated Kaliya Naag and started dancing on the head of Kaliya Naag, due to which footprints of Lord Krishna remained on the head of Kaliya Naag.

After this, Lord Krishna ordered Kaliya Naag to leave the Yamuna River, so that the Yamuna River does not get poisoned by the snake's poison. Then Shri Krishna told Kaliya Naga that Garuda would not kill him after seeing the footprints on his head. The footprints of Shri Krishna on the head of Kaliya Naga proved to be a boon.

According to legend, there was a king named Janmejaya, who died because he was bitten by the Takshaka serpent. King Janmejaya's son organized a yagya to take revenge from Takshak Naga. In this Yagya, snakes came in a long queue, who had come to offer sacrifice in the Yagya, but were getting pulled into the Yagya Kund. Many snakes died due to this. Astika Muni went there to stop the menace of snakes. After this he requested the king's son to stop the yagya. After this the yajna was stopped, which protected the snakes.
