Sonal Dinusha's brilliant century against India

On 17 August, a young Sri Lankan batsman performed a feat on the Galle pitch that the hosts would remember for a long time. Sonal Dinusha, playing her fourth Test against India, not only saved Sri Lanka from the follow-on by scoring a brilliant century, but also added to a unique record. In the first Test, Dinusha came in to bat when Sri Lanka were 59 for four.

Dinusha completed her maiden Test century in the third session of the third day of the first Test played at the Gayle International Stadium. The 25-year-old left-handed batsman scored 100 runs off 168 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. Dinusha completed her century in 167 balls, but her innings ended on the second ball when Ravindra Jadeja gave her out LBW.

Dinusha’s century was not only the first Test century of his career, but also an important record for Sri Lanka. He became the fourth Sri Lankan batsman to score a century in Test cricket while batting at number six against India. Earlier, the list included former Sri Lankan captain Arjun Ranatunga, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal.
