Nico Gonzalez set to join Newcastle United from Manchester City: Reports

Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez is set to join Premier League side Newcastle United from Manchester City, according to reports.

The 24-year-old joined City from Porto in February 2025 to fill in for the then-injured Rodri in the heart of midfield. But he has struggled to find consistent minutes, featuring 59 times across all competitions for City, scoring four times in that period.

A product of the Barcelona youth academy, Gonzalez made 37 appearances for the La Liga giant before moving to Porto in 2023. He played 68 times for Porto, scoring nine goals and assists each.

Gonzalez is set to join City’s long list of departures this summer with John Stones, Nathan Ake, Bernardo Silva and Rodri already leaving while Omar Marmoush and Savinho are reportedly set to join Tottenham Hotspur.

City began life under new manager Enzo Maresca with a 2-1 comeback win against Bournemouth, while Newcastle United held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in Matthias Jaissle’s first game in charge.
