Darjeeling Himalayan Railway announces additional joyrides during Puja season. DHR is going to start that joyride from October 1. The names of the joyrides are Red Panda and Muktdhara. During the Puja season, the demand for the traditional Darjeeling Toy Train increases several times. Keeping that added pressure in mind, plans have been made to run additional rides along with the regular services. At the same time, DHR authorities have also started preparations to meet the demand of joyride and chartered toytrains.
A trip on the century-old toy train is on the wish list of most tourists. As a result, the demand for joyrides also increases during this period along with regular trains. DHR is looking at expanding services to meet this increased demand.
Durga Puja is the best festival of Bengali. A very long vacation. During this holiday of Puja, a large number of tourists from the plains flock to various hill resorts including Darjeeling, Karshiang. That preparation has already begun. However, a trip on the century-old toy train is on the wish list of most of the tourists. As a result, the demand for joyrides also increases during this period along with regular trains. DHR is looking at expanding services to meet this increased demand.
DHR has issued guidelines saying that single trip joyrides are running from Darjeeling to Ghum station. 9:20 am and 11:25 am are scheduled to reach sleep from Darjeeling. On the other hand, two timings have been fixed from Ghum station to Darjeeling station. 10:25 AM and 12:30 PM. However, diesel powered engines will be used for this ride. In that case the rent is also fixed within the affordability. In this case the cost is only 800 rupees per head.
On the other hand, the joyride on the heritage steam engine is a bit longer. In that case, DHR has decided to run the train in two rounds. The first one is named after the traditional Red Pandar of Darjeeling. From Karshiang to Mahanadi, this steam powered engine will run Joy Ride. Which will leave from Karshiong at 9 am. Which is going to become a big attraction for the tourists during the upcoming Puja holidays.
