For lakhs of daily commuters living in the areas bordering Haryana along with Outer and North-West Delhi, travel is expected to become easier and modern in the times to come. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken another step towards accelerating the construction of the much-awaited Rithala-Kundli Metro Corridor of Phase-4. Under this, DMRC has issued a second tender for the corridor. Rithala-Kundli Corridor is included in the important projects of Phase-4. With its launch, the outer and north-western parts of Delhi are expected to get better metro connectivity with the Kundli area of Haryana.
Connectivity will improve till Haryana border
Through this corridor, passengers living in Rithala and surrounding areas of Delhi and areas adjacent to the Haryana border will get a better option of public transport. For the passengers currently dependent on road, increasing metro connectivity is expected to provide convenience in daily commuting. After the second tender is issued by DMRC, the process of carrying forward the construction work of the project will speed up. Tenders are being issued in a phased manner for various packages related to the construction of the corridor.
Road, flyover and metro will be visible one above the other
Under this tender, an elevated metro line will be constructed between Rithala and Bawana Industrial Area Sector-1/2. The project will also include the fourth double-decker corridor of Delhi, which will become the specialty of this route. The double decker corridor will have a road below, an elevated flyover for vehicles above it and a metro train will run on the top deck. That means, different levels will be prepared for road transport and metro in the same corridor. This double decker corridor will be built over NH-344P between Rohini Sector-34 to Bawana Industrial Area Sector-1/2. Its total length will be around 1.300 kilometers.
These will be 10 new stations
Commuters are expected to get 10 new metro stations in this part of the Rithala-Kundli corridor. List of proposed stations: Rohini Sector-25, Rohini Sector-26, Rohini Sector-31, Rohini Sector-28, Rohini Sector-29/30, Rohini Sector-35, Barwala, Rohini Sector-34, Bawana Industrial Area Sector-3/4, Bawana Industrial Area Sector-1/2, with the construction of these stations many residential and Industrial areas are expected to get direct benefits from the metro network.
Construction work will gain momentum
The process of construction of the corridor will move forward after the second tender is issued by DMRC. This corridor, being prepared under Phase-4, is expected to provide better metro connectivity to many areas of Outer and North-West Delhi. Apart from this, this corridor is also considered important for the travelers from the areas adjacent to the Haryana border. After its launch, public transport connectivity between Delhi and surrounding areas will be strengthened.
Status of 3 other double decker corridors in Delhi
Majlis Park-Maujpur: The construction of this double decker corridor is almost complete. Currently, the ramp work is pending, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Sangam Vihar-Khanpur (Golden/Silver Line): Construction of the double decker corridor on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road is going on at a fast pace.
Anand Vihar-Derawal Nagar/Janakpuri West-RK Ashram: Construction work is going on on this corridor also.
This project is an extension of the existing Red Line, which currently operates from Shaheed Sthal New Bus Stand, Ghaziabad to Rithala. After the completion of Rithala-Kundli corridor, the Red Line network will reach Kundli in Haryana.
The extension will be 26.46 kilometers long
The length of Rithala-Kundli metro corridor will be about 26.46 kilometers. A total of 21 stations will be built on the entire route. The estimated cost of this project is around Rs 6,230 crore. The project is targeted to be completed by the year 2029. After its completion, passengers will be able to get direct and easy metro connectivity from Ghaziabad to Kundli via Delhi.
Elevated line will be built between Rithala and Bawana
Under the second tender, an elevated metro line will be constructed between Rithala and Bawana Industrial Area Sector-1/2. Delhi's fourth double decker corridor will also be built in this part. The double decker corridor will have a road at the bottom, an elevated flyover for vehicles above it and metro trains will run on the top deck. This approximately 1.300 km long stretch will be built over NH-344P between Rohini Sector-34 to Bawana Industrial Area Sector-1/2.
