What advice did Shubhman Gill give?
In view of the failure of the Indian batsmen against spin, Shubman Gill has advised that if some batsmen play against Australia A and they are provided with a slightly turning pitch there, then it will strengthen the preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Quoting BCCI sources, TOI has written in its report that in the last two years, Indian batsmen have been seen struggling on turn-taking home pitches. In such a situation, Gill has advised to play some batsmen against Australia A. He also advised to make turning pitches in those matches. BCCI sources said that of course, keeping BGT in mind, they cannot provide a completely turning pitch against Australia A. But, we can definitely prepare such a pitch on which we will see some turn later on.
What’s the problem with following Gill’s advice?
BCCI sources further said that however, there is a problem in implementing Gill’s advice and that is that due to the Irani Trophy, very few Test players will be available to play against Australia A. If we give them a chance against Australia A, then the Rest of India team will look weak in the Irani Trophy, which will affect the standard of the matches there.
