Uttarakhand News: The residents of Dehradun are going to get relief very soon from the problems of broken roads and dark roads. Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, the district administration has taken charge of completely improving the roads and lighting system of the capital. With the departure of monsoon, the work of repairing roads in every corner of the city will be started on war footing. In this regard, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has issued strict instructions to all the concerned departments to complete the work within the stipulated time. This time the administration is conducting ground checks of roads and basic facilities not only during the day but also at night.
Road campaign will start from 15th September
As soon as the rainy season ends, a pothole-free campaign will be started in the entire district from September 15. All the agencies involved in the construction have completed the survey of roads in their respective areas and the process of issuing tenders is being carried forward rapidly. The administration has made it clear that any kind of negligence in work will not be tolerated. Strict instructions have been given to all the executing agencies that every small and big road in the district should be made completely safe and passable before 30 October 2026. The target has been set to complete the patchwork and reconstruction work of the roads within this stipulated time frame.
City's street lighting system handed over to 40 teams
Along with the roads, the Municipal Corporation has also geared up to improve the lighting system of Doon city. More than one lakh fourteen thousand street lights are installed in the entire area of the Municipal Corporation. Out of these, complaints were lodged regarding malfunction of about one hundred and sixty nine lights. To resolve these complaints without any delay, the corporation has fielded 40 special teams across the city. These teams are not only repairing the damaged lights, but also replacing the old lights with new ones if needed.
Repair work going on in many main areas of the city
Technical teams of the Municipal Corporation have recently repaired the lights by reaching busy routes like Mussoorie Diversion, Barowala, Survey of India Complex, Kamala Palace to Shimla Bypass, Haridwar Bypass and Sahasradhara Crossing to IT Park Road. Apart from this, the switched off lights in the areas from ISBT to Niranjanpur, Darshanlal Chowk, Subhash Road, Race Course and from Favwara Chowk to Nehru Colony have also been switched on immediately. The administration is trying to ensure that no main intersection or residential area of the city remains in darkness at night, so that the common people and pedestrians do not have to face any kind of danger.
Task force of officers doing surprise inspection at night
The District Magistrate has taken a unique initiative to verify the ground reality of the claims. Separate special task forces of 20-20 district level officers have been formed to check street lights, garbage dumping points, motor roads, food safety and electricity theft in the city. This task force is carrying out surprise inspections on the streets in the dark of night. During the inspection, the officials see the actual situation of the spot and wherever any irregularity is found, the photo and Google location of the spot is immediately sent to the concerned department. This saves time in fixing the problem and accountability of negligent employees is also being fixed.
Dual strategy will change the picture of the city
The effect of this dual strategy adopted by the district administration is now visible in the city. On one hand, work is going on to fill the potholes and repair the roads during the day, while on the other hand, teams of top officials are monitoring the arrangements at night. The work is being done by setting priorities on the basis of the reports prepared every day by the task force. This entire exercise has raised hopes that in the coming days, the roads of Dehradun will not only be pothole free, but the entire city will be illuminated with better lighting at night and people's travel will become more convenient.
