Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a big decision for the convenience of students and common people amid traffic restrictions in Delhi due to the 18th BRICS Summit. Metro services will start from 6 am on Sunday, September 13.
“To facilitate smooth and timely movement of examination-going students and general public, metro train services will commence from 06:00 am on Sunday, September 13, on all lines, amid traffic restrictions due to the BRICS Summit. Students and passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” DMRC said in a post on ‘X’.
Let us tell you that this time the 18th BRICS Summit is being organized at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Strict security arrangements have been made in Delhi regarding this. Many prominent places will remain closed for the next three days, including Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and Amrit Udyan.
Officials said that Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and Amrit Udyan have been kept closed for visitors from Friday to Sunday. An official said in a statement that there will be no ‘Change of Guard’ ceremony in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday.
The move is part of an effort to minimize inconvenience to BRICS delegates and reduce crowding on roads by restricting movement of people around the summit venue.
Delhi government has already declared holiday in its offices on September 11. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has also issued an official circular declaring a holiday in central government offices on that day.
On Friday, Delhi Police issued a traffic advisory regarding the BRICS conference. It was told that due to the summit, traffic will be diverted and movement will be controlled on the main roads of Delhi from 2 pm to 8.30 pm.
Police have advised passengers to plan their journey in advance, allow extra time for travel, use public transport, especially the metro, and follow prescribed diversion routes and instructions from traffic personnel. Police said that vehicles carrying emergency and essential services will be given priority in passing.
