Bhasma Aarti was performed in the Mahakaleshwar temple of Ujjain in the early hours of Friday. Lord Mahakal was adorned with silver crown, mundamaal, Rudraksh and flowers. Maha Nirvani Akhara offered ashes and a large number of devotees visited.
Ujjain: The physical form of Lord Mahakal was seen during the Bhasma Aarti in the world famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in the early hours of Friday. After Panchamrit puja and Karpoor Aarti, Baba Mahakal was decorated with hemp, sandalwood, dry fruits and ashes. The Lord was made to wear a silver crown, Mundamaal, Rudraksh and a garland of fragrant flowers.
Darshan of Baba Mahakal’s physical form during Bhasma Aarti in Ujjain
Bhasma Aarti was performed in the world famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple of Ujjain in the early hours of Friday. During Bhasma Aarti, a large number of devotees arrived to have darshan of Baba Mahakal. Lord Mahakal was worshiped in the temple as per the prescribed traditions and rituals. During this, special adornment of Baba Mahakal was done, in which silver crown, Mundamaal, Rudraksh garland and fragrant flowers were used.
The process of Bhasma Aarti started with the recitation of Swasti in the ears of Virbhadraji in the Sabha Mandap. After this, permission was taken from God by ringing the bell. After taking permission, the silver curtains of the Sabha Mandap were opened. After this, the doors of the sanctum sanctorum were opened and the priests removed the makeup of Lord Mahakal.
After removing the makeup, Panchamrit worship of Lord Mahakal was done. Milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey and fruit juice were used in Panchamrit. The Lord was worshiped and anointed with Panchamrit. After this Karpoor Aarti was performed.
Bath and worship of Nandiji in Nandi Hall
As part of the religious process of Bhasma Aarti, bathing, meditation and worship of Nandiji was also done in Nandi Hall. After this, Lord Mahakal was anointed with water. Religious rituals were followed during the consecration.
After Panchamrit puja and consecration, the process of special adornment of Lord Mahakal started. Silver moon, trident, crown and other ornaments were offered to Baba. After this, the Lord was decorated with hemp, sandalwood, dry fruits and ashes.

During the special adornment, Lord Mahakal wore the silver crown of Sheshnag. Along with this, she was adorned with silver mundamaal, Rudraksh garland and flower garland made of fragrant flowers. After adornment, the form of Baba Mahakal remained the center of special attraction for the devotees.
During the puja, fruits and sweets were also offered to Lord Mahakal. The devotees participating in Bhasma Aarti had darshan of Baba Mahakal and took blessings. A religious atmosphere prevailed in the temple premises during this period.
Maha Nirvani Akhara offered ashes
During Bhasma Aarti, ashes were offered to Lord Mahakal on behalf of Maha Nirvani Akhara. Bhasma Aarti of Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple has special religious significance. It is believed that after offering ashes, Lord Mahakal appears from formless form to corporeal form.
Each worship process that takes place during Bhasma Aarti is considered to have its own religious significance. From reciting Swasti to worshiping Panchamrit, Abhishek, adornment, offering bhog and ashes, all the traditions were followed as per the rituals.
On Friday, a large number of devotees reached the temple to have darshan of Baba Mahakal. Devotees saw the physical form of God during Bhasma Aarti and took blessings of Baba Mahakal with wishes of happiness and prosperity.
