Acting on intelligence information, security forces have claimed to have killed six terrorists in Saranan area of Pishin district of Balochistan province of Pakistan. According to officials, the slain terrorists belonged to the banned Baloch terrorist network involved in attacks on civilians and violent activities in the area. According to Balochistan Pulse, Balochistan's online news network, the action followed an attack on workers working on a construction road in Saranan area on August 24. According to police, four laborers were killed in the initial attack. Meanwhile, another laborer injured in a separate firing incident later died, taking the death toll to six.
According to security officials, intelligence had revealed the presence and activities of terrorists in Saranan area. Based on the input, security forces launched an operation in the area. During the operation, an encounter took place between security personnel and terrorists, in which six terrorists were killed. Officials say the slain terrorists were allegedly involved in targeting civilians and other incidents of violence in the area. However, these claims could not be independently verified.
The concern of security agencies regarding terrorist activities in Pishin and surrounding areas has increased in recent times. Apart from attacks on workers, incidents targeting government establishments and security forces have also been reported in Saranan. On August 20, the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed occupation of parts of Saranan and control over government buildings. However, this claim has not been independently verified and is currently being considered as only the organization's claim. Security forces are taking action based on intelligence as part of anti-terrorism operation in Balochistan. Chagai, Mastung, Kharan, Washuk and other districts have also been targeted in recent operations targeting alleged militant networks.
Pishin's action is considered important because it was taken after the attack on common workers. Officials say terrorist violence is no longer limited to security establishments but also poses a serious threat to civilians and ongoing economic activities in the region. According to security officials, such operations based on intelligence information will continue in the future to prevent terrorist organizations from gaining a local foothold and targeting civilians.
