Anant Nag To Receive Dadasaheb Phalke: Another big achievement has been added to the name of veteran Indian cinema artist Anant Nag. Anant Nag, who has shown his distinct style of acting in films for more than five decades, has been announced to be given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2024. The Government of India has decided to give this honor in view of his long and remarkable film journey.
Anant Nag will be honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award
In the information given by the Press Information Bureau, it was said that following the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, Anant Nag has been selected for this prestigious honor for the year 2024. This award is being given in view of his long contribution to Indian cinema. Anant Nag will be presented this honor at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony to be held on 22 September 2026 at Ekta Nagar, Kevadiya, Gujarat. President Draupadi Murmu will present the National Film Awards in this ceremony.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is one of the major national honors given in Indian cinema. It is given in recognition of an artist’s long contribution and achievements in cinema. In 2025, the award for 2023 was presented to actor Mohanlal, while in 2024, Mithun Chakraborty received the honor for 2022.

After the announcement of Anant Nag’s honour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated him. He mentioned Ananth Nag’s acting journey spanning several decades and especially his contribution to Kannada cinema. The Prime Minister appreciated his effortless acting, versatility and ability to effectively portray the emotions of different characters.
Who is Anant Nag?
Anant Nag was born on 4 September 1948. His full name is Anant Nagarkatte. Before coming into the world of acting, he worked in theater and gave a strong foundation to his acting through theatre.
Anant Nag has worked in more than 300 films in his long career. Apart from Kannada cinema, he also appeared in films of Hindi and many other languages of South India. His film journey included not only commercial films but also cinema in which social and humanitarian themes got a place. He also had an important contribution in the parallel cinema of the 1970s and 1980s and his name reached the Hindi cinema audience with films like Shyam Benegal’s ‘Ankur’.
Got recognition in every household from ‘Malgudi Days’
Along with films, television also took Anant Nag’s popularity to a different level. Even today the audience remembers his presence in Doordarshan’s famous serial ‘Malgudi Days’. This series based on the stories of RK Narayan played a big role in connecting him with the audience across the country.
Anant Nag’s face has been familiar even among the new generation audience. He was also seen in Yash’s famous films ‘KGF’ and ‘KGF Chapter 2’.
After Padma Bhushan, now Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Anant Nag was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of arts in 2025. President Draupadi Murmu had given him this honour. The official statement by the Government of India mentions his film career spanning over five decades and his contribution to Kannada cinema.
