World Ozone Day: India's initiative towards saving ozone layer, emphasis on environmental protection along with development

Delhi. Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh says India has met its commitments under the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances without compromising development, demonstrating active leadership in the field of conservation.

Role of lifestyle is important in environmental protection

Addressing the 32nd World Ozone Day organized by the Environment Ministry in Mumbai on Wednesday, Singh said that collective participation of governments, scientists, industry, officials and citizens is necessary to deal with environmental challenges.

wise use of natural resources

Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh, while mentioning 'Mission Life' (Lifestyle for Environment), said that it provides a framework to translate environmental protection into simple everyday actions. “Judicious use of natural resources, instead of wasteful consumption, can enable citizens to contribute to environmental protection,” he said. Singh urged citizens to adopt three measures for sustainable cooling.

He said that air conditioners should be serviced by certified and skilled technicians who can safely maintain the cooling system. To save electricity and reduce carbon emissions, he advised keeping the air conditioner temperature at a comfortable level, preferably around 24 degrees Celsius, and choosing energy-efficient appliances with higher star ratings that use climate-friendly refrigerants.

Net zero portal and NAPCC dashboard launched

The event also launched India's 'Net Zero Portal' and National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) dashboard. The 'Net Zero Portal' will serve as a central platform to monitor, coordinate and demonstrate India's climate commitments.

Through this, industries, organizations and government bodies will be able to voluntarily register and demonstrate their progress towards net-zero emissions. At the same time, the NAPCC dashboard will be a centralized digital platform for India's National Climate Change Action Plan, in which the progress of various national missions and their related information will be available.
