An important initiative has been taken by the Union Ministry of Education for the students of class 6 to 12 across the country. The Ministry has launched a national level online quiz on ‘Solid Waste Management’. This quiz is being organized as a part of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ campaign, the main objective of which is to create environmental awareness among children right from school level.
You can participate till October 17
According to the information received by the Ministry of Education, this online quiz has already started from 17 September and students can participate in it through online medium till 17 October 2026. This initiative has been launched through Eco Clubs of the ‘Mission Life’ portal. Through this quiz, students will be able to test their knowledge on how to properly manage environmentally harmful waste, how to classify it and how to protect the environment. Also they will be aware about new and effective ways to create a clean and green environment.
Procedure and rules for participating in the quiz
This competition is exclusively for students studying in class 6 to 12. Students have to provide some basic information about themselves while participating in the quiz. In which the full name of the student, his standard and age should be indicated. Apart from this, the most important thing is that students have to fill their school’s ‘UDISE Code’ in the form compulsorily. Based on this code, the government will prepare an official record of the participation of the school in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign.
Online study material available for preparation
Special study material (Study Material) is also made available free of charge by the Vidyalaya Education and Literacy Department to help students score well in quizzes and understand the subject in depth. Students can access this material by visiting the official Eco Club portal ecoclubs.education.gov.in. Information has been placed on the website in the form of modules 1, 2 and 3 for the students of class 6 to 12. Students can study this module before starting the quiz.
Special emphasis on waste classification
The study material provided by the government has given special emphasis on solid waste management regulations. It is clearly stated that in all places where waste is generated, including homes and schools, it is necessary to segregate it properly. According to the study material, waste is divided into four main categories: (1) wet waste, (2) dry waste, (3) sanitary waste and (4) special care waste. Only after separating the waste into these four parts should it be handed over to an authorized waste collector or agency. This initiative of the Ministry of Education is being considered as a highly commendable step to teach the next generation the lessons of environmental protection.
