Harmanpreet Kaur said in an Instagram post on Tuesday, “Today, I am stepping down from the captaincy of the Indian women's cricket team across all formats. This decision has not been an easy one. It involves years of memories, emotions, sacrifices and moments that will stay with me throughout my life. I have given my all for this team and Indian women's cricket — my blood and sweat, my time and, at times, even a part of my game and personal ambitions. There have been moments when I have had to sacrifice my life for the better.” “Personal performance, my own progress and my own desires had to be put aside because I believed that the team came first.”
He further wrote, “As captain, I have had to take difficult decisions. Decisions that were not always understood, that were not always easy, and sometimes that came at a personal cost. But every decision I took was with one purpose in mind – to make this team better and to give other players the opportunity to grow, believe in themselves and be their best.”
The captain, who led India to its first World Cup win, said, “I have seen it all. I have seen the toughest moments, the heartbreaks, the criticism, the doubts and the days when nothing seemed to be in our favour. And I have also experienced the most wonderful moments – the wins, the celebrations, the pride of representing the country and the moments that made every sacrifice worth it. Today I am leaving the captaincy with a heart full of emotions, but with peace in my mind. Because I truly believe that my team is in the right place.” A team with talent, character, confidence and a future that I'm excited to be a part of. I feel like I've done my part.”
Harmanpreet thanked her teammates, coach, support staff, management, BCCI, family members and every fan. Let us tell you that under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, India won the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, also won the recent edition of the Asia Cup and retained the gold medal in the Asian Games.
