New Delhi. Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been appointed as the next chief of the Indian Air Force. He will take over as the Chief of the Air Force from the afternoon of 31 October 2026 and will hold the post till 31 December 2028. The President has approved the appointment of Air Marshal Dixit.

Air Marshal Dixit is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of the Air Force. He took over this responsibility on July 1, 2026. He will succeed Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who took over as the Air Chief on September 30, 2024, and will retire on October 31, 2026. Air Marshal Dixit is known for his active role in pursuing the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas and other indigenous aircraft projects of the Air Force. His appointment is expected to further increase the emphasis on self-reliance in the Air Force.
He joined the fighter branch of the Indian Air Force on 6 December 1986. He is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy, Defense Services Staff College of Bangladesh and National Defense College. Air Marshal Dixit has more than 3,500 hours of flying experience. He has flown many aircraft including Mirage-2000, various versions of MiG, Jaguar, Tejas, Hawk, IL-78, AN-32, Avro, Kiran and HPT-32.
