Udayvir Sidhu's golden performance at ISSF World Cup; Won gold medal in 10m air pistol category

Indian shooter Udayveer Sidhu won the gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol event at the ISSF Rifle-Pistol World Cup on Sunday. In the final, he scored 240.6 points to beat Germany's veteran shooter and multiple Olympic medalist Christian Ritz by 0.5 points.

The 24-year-old Udayaveer gave a strong performance in the final. Ritz took silver with 240.1 points, while Italy's Paolo Monna took bronze with 219.8 points.

Udayavir's patience in the final shots

In the last stage of the final round, Udayaveer managed to maintain his patience and hit the target accurately. He was 0.3 points behind Ritz before the last two shots. However, Udayavir scored 10.2 and 9.8 points respectively in these two shots. Ritz, on the other hand, scored 9.6 in both shots. So Udayaveer carved his name on the gold medal.

4th place in qualifying round

Prior to the final round, Udayaveer scored a total of 585 in the six series of qualifiers with scores of 99, 98, 98, 97, 97 and 96. On the strength of this performance, he made it to the final round of eight shooters.

India's Jonathan Gavin Anthony finished joint top with 586 points in the qualifiers. However, he participated only for Ranking Points (RPO). Indian shooter Ajendra Singh Chauhan finished 14th with 580 points, while Olympic medalist Sarabjot Singh finished 31st with 574 points. Kumar Yogesh who participated in RPO group scored 573 marks.

Olympic medalist Yusuf Dikech in seventh place

Turkey's Paris 2024 Olympic medalist Yusuf Dikech also made it to the final. However, he had to settle for seventh place with 138.0 points. Greece's Georgios Gampierakis finished fourth with 198.7 points, while Latvia's Emils Wassermanis finished fifth with 177.6 points.

The ISSF Rifle-Pistol World Cup is being held in Cairo from 8 to 16 October 2026. India has sent a 24 member squad for this tournament. Ahead of the competition, Indian shooters participated in a national practice camp from October 1 to 7 at the Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun. The camp focused on match practice and improving technical skills. India is participating in eight individual Olympic events along with two mixed team events.
