Chennai Metro Phase 2 gets momentum, PM Modi and CM Vijay flagged off the first train

Chennai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday flagged off the first train of the Phase-2 network of Chennai Metro Rail. Another important step was added to the public transport system of the city with the event organized at Porur Bypass Road Metro Station. This is said to be the Prime Minister's first visit to Chennai after the Vijay government assumed power in Tamil Nadu. During this period, he also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of many infrastructure projects related to road, railway and maritime transport.

Bought ticket from UPI, traveled with CM Vijay

Before flagging off the metro service, Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Vijay inspected the facilities of the station. The officials informed him about the metro network, new trains and operational arrangements. The Prime Minister then purchased the ticket through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and traveled with the Chief Minister in the metro from Porur Bypass Road station to Poonamallee.

During the visit, the officials gave information to the Prime Minister regarding the operation of the new metro service. PM Modi also interacted with the students and employees present in the train.

Corridor built at a cost of Rs 750 crore

In the first phase of the new route of Chennai Metro, trains will stop at 11 stations. According to available information, the Poonamallee-Vadapalani corridor has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 750 crore. This service is expected to expand public transportation options in the city.

Highway and railway projects also got a gift

During his visit to Chennai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated various national highway projects worth about Rs 3,700 crore. These included projects that had reached the new stage of construction as well as infrastructure facilities dedicated to the public.

Additionally, the Prime Minister dedicated railway infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 750 crore to the nation. These projects aim to improve transportation facilities and strengthen connectivity.

Chennai Port facilities also expanded

Prime Minister inaugurated four infrastructure projects at Chennai Port. These are expected to strengthen the port's maritime facilities and increase goods movement and cargo handling capacity. In view of the Prime Minister's visit, elaborate security arrangements were made in Chennai.
