Monsoon has become fully active across the country. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has today issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall with severe thunderstorm in many states of North-West and Central India on August 11, 2026. Due to the seasonal system formed near Madhya Pradesh and the Bay of Bengal, a huge increase in rainfall activities has been recorded from the plains to the hilly states. The Meteorological Department has advised people living in coastal and hilly areas to remain alert and avoid waterlogging and landslides. 'Yellow alert' for rain and thundershowers in Delhi-NCR today. There will be clouds in the capital Delhi and surrounding areas (Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad) today and light to moderate rain will be seen intermittently. IMD has issued 'Yellow Alert' for Delhi. In many areas, rains have been continuing since morning, due to which the temperature has dropped, but problems of waterlogging and traffic jams may arise in low-lying areas. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 26 degrees Celsius. Weather of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar: Heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Uttar Pradesh: Widespread rain is expected in the districts of Western and Eastern UP today. Moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected in many districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad and Meerut. A warning of lightning strike has also been issued at some places. Bihar: Monsoon remains favorable in the districts of Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Seemanchal. Expressing the possibility of heavy rain and thundershowers in many parts of the state, the Meteorological Department has instructed people not to go in open fields or under trees. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand: Orange alert, threat of landslides and flash floods. The situation remains quite sensitive in the hilly states. Due to rain, the risk of debris falling from the mountains and rivers overflowing has increased: Himachal Pradesh: Orange alert is in place for heavy to very heavy rain in Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra and Sirmaur. A warning has been issued of flash floods and landslides in the sensitive catchment areas of Shimla and Sirmaur. Due to blockage of national highways and local roads, passengers have been asked to avoid non-essential travel. Uttarakhand: Heavy rain is expected in Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal and Pithoragarh districts today. Alaknanda, Mandakini and Ganga rivers are in spate. In view of the incidents of landslides on the Chardham Yatra route, the administration is on alert mode and pilgrims have been advised to proceed only after seeing the weather updates. Condition of other states: Rain activities will continue in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh today. Heavy rains are expected over the coastal districts of East Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, while heavy rains will continue over Northeast India (Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh) for the next few days.
