Who is Tukaram Mundhe?
Mundhe is known for his strict and no-nonsense approach to administration. His journey to the civil services began far away from the corridors of government.According to The Hindu, Mundhe grew up in a financially struggling family in Beed, Maharashtra. His parents sold vegetables at a weekly market, and the family lived in a mud house while dealing with water shortages and the uncertainty of the monsoon.He walked barefoot to his local Zilla Parishad school. Seeing his family struggle with problems he believed were linked to administrative failures eventually pushed him towards the civil services.Mundhe cleared the UPSC examination in 2005 with an All India Rank of 20 and was allotted Maharashtra as his home cadre.His approach to administration has also made him a controversial figure within the system. According to The Hindu, he has been transferred 25 times during 21 years of service and has not completed a full tenure in any of his postings.Now, his work in Maharashtra’s food safety administration has caught the attention of Sherawat, who used her social media platform to publicly thank him for his efforts.
