Tenure of Chief Selector of Indian Cricket Team Ajit Agarkar Now it is nearing its end. According to media reports, Agarkar has told BCCI that he does not want to continue in this post after his current tenure ends on October 4, 2026. In the BCCI AGM, board officials have also been given the right to decide on Agarkar’s future. However, at present there has been no official announcement from the board regarding his successor.
Agarkar became the chairman of the senior selection committee of the Indian men’s cricket team in July 2023. The biggest mark of his tenure was the return of the Indian team to ICC tournaments. During his tenure, India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, 2025 Champions Trophy and 2026 T20 World Cup Won. That is, during Agarkar’s tenure as the selection committee chief, India won three ICC titles.
After 2024, India won T-20 World Cup in 2026 also
India ends 11-year ICC trophy drought in 2024. After this, the Champions Trophy was won in 2025 and in March 2026, India successfully defended the T20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand in Ahmedabad. In the final of 2026, India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs and won the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time.

How was Agarkar’s international cricket career?
- Agarkar himself has been a successful international cricketer. He played for the Indian team as a fast bowler and played an important role in India’s victory by taking six wickets in the second innings against Australia in the 2003 Adelaide Test. He also has special records in batting.
- Agarkar holds the record for the fastest half-century in ODI for India. He scored fifty in just 21 balls against Zimbabwe in 2000.
