New Delhi/Alive News: The central government has included 27 places and their associated geographical features in the official map of Arunachal Pradesh. This move comes amid China’s efforts to rename several places in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the Home Ministry, the decision to include these places in the official record was taken after consultation with the Arunachal Pradesh government. The aim is to ensure the correct and official identification of these areas and to increase public awareness about these places.
Unification in Government Records
According to the government, including these place names in official maps will facilitate administrative work. It will bring uniformity to the records of various government departments and improve coordination.
Furthermore, in the event of a disaster or emergency, the correct identification of the relevant location can also help expedite relief and rescue operations.
However, it is not yet clear whether any changes will be made to the passports or other personal documents of the public based on these official names. Currently, the government’s primary objective is to strengthen the official identity of these areas and include them in Indian administrative records.
China has changed place names several times
China has long been issuing its own names for many places in Arunachal Pradesh. China calls Arunachal Pradesh “Zangnan” and has issued a list of changed names for several places in the state.
India has consistently rejected these attempts by China. India maintains that any name change does not affect India’s sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh.
Longju included in the official map
Longju is among the places included in the official map of the Survey of India. This area is located near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Chinese troops arrived in the Longju area in 1959. Therefore, this area is considered strategically and historically important.
Jairampur is important for security forces
Jairampur in Changlang district is also included in these identified places. It serves as a vital logistics hub for the movement of security forces towards eastern Arunachal Pradesh and the Myanmar border.
This move by the government is expected to further strengthen the official recognition and administrative records of these strategic areas.
