Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting here on Sunday to comprehensively review the preparedness to deal with possible floods and heat waves in the country. This meeting is particularly important in the direction of the proactive and decisive ‘Whole of Government’ and ‘Whole of Society’ approach adopted by the Government for disaster management. The Home Ministry has significantly strengthened the disaster management framework in the country in recent years.
This includes better coordination between central and state government agencies, strengthening of the NDRF and continued focus on the vision of zero casualties during natural disasters. This high-level review reflects the Government’s unwavering commitment towards proactive governance, citizen-centric disaster management and building a disaster-resilient India.

The Union Home Minister will also review the progress of long-term measures being taken to mitigate the impact of floods in the country.
These measures include the protection of critical infrastructure projects, river management initiatives and scientific advances in weather forecasting. Besides, the Union Home Minister will also take stock of the implementation of the decisions taken in the review meeting held last year, so that accountability can be ensured and prompt and coordinated execution of various activities.
The high-level meeting will mainly discuss strengthening flood forecasting and early warning systems through advanced technology and real-time data integration, enhancing preparedness to deal with the challenges of simultaneous disasters, especially floods and heat waves, running community awareness programs to prevent loss of life and property, ensuring adequate stock of essential relief materials and medical preparedness.
