Are you troubled by frequent call drops in metro? Report exposes weak network, know the reason
New Delhi: The problem of mobile network is no longer a new thing for millions of passengers traveling in Delhi Metro. Sudden call disconnection, video call stoppage or internet speed slowing down during travel has become a common thing for people these days. Now recently the latest report of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has come out, in which this problem has been investigated and the reasons behind it have been explained.
Drive test conducted in Delhi NCR
TRAI recently conducted extensive drive tests on the metro network and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors of Delhi-NCR. In this test, the quality of mobile calling, internet speed, signal strength, call drop and data services was assessed. During this period, according to the report, the problem of reduction in network coverage and weak signal has come to light on many routes.
coverage gap problem
Let us tell you, along with various lines of Delhi Metro, Noida, Gurugram and Delhi-Meerut corridor were also included in the investigation. At the same time, the report found that at some places mobile signals go below the prescribed standards, due to which calling and internet services are affected. This situation is called ‘coverage gap’ in technical language.
According to the report, many places with weak signals have been identified in the networks of various telecom companies. Although the performance of private companies was relatively better, network related challenges were found to be present at some level in almost all operators.
What is the reason behind this?
Investigation has revealed that a large part of Delhi Metro passes through underground routes and high-speed tracks. In such a situation, the mobile phone has to be continuously switched from one tower to another. If there is even a slight interruption in this process, it impacts the call quality and internet connectivity, due to which the single goes away.
5G network data speed
Although 5G networks have shown better performance in terms of data speed, fast speed alone is not enough. It is equally important to have continuous and stable network available to the passengers. To overcome this problem, there is a need to establish a special network, for which continuous efforts are being made. Let us tell you, TRAI’s report has been sent to the concerned telecom companies and it is expected that in the coming time, necessary steps will be taken to improve the areas with weak network.
