Girl cheated of Rs 3.38 lakh in the name of getting job, fake appointment letter exposed

Raigarh. The accused Harish Mishra, who committed a fraud of Rs 3 lakh 38 thousand 500 on the pretext of getting a job as a computer operator in Collectorate Sarangarh, was arrested by the Kotra Road police station yesterday from Jashpur district while he was absconding and sent him to jail on judicial remand on Saturday.

The accused had obtained the amount through cash and online medium by assuring the victim of getting her a contractual appointment and later kept misleading the victim for a long time by giving her a fake appointment letter.

According to the information, Kumari Padimani Yadav (27 years), resident of village Kotra, gave a written complaint at Kotra Road police station on April 03, 2026, saying that she had come to know the accused Harish Mishra through her niece.

The accused received a total of Rs 3,38,500 through cash and phone-pay on different dates between 09 February 2026 and 22 March 2026 on the promise of contractual appointment to the post of Computer Operator in Collectorate Sarangarh.

When the appointment was not made for a long time, the accused kept procrastinating by saying that it was just today. Meanwhile, the victim was given an appointment letter from an organization called “Call Me Services”, with which when she reached Collectorate Raigarh, the document was found to be completely fake during investigation.

On the complaint, crime number 104/2026 under section 318 (4) BNS was registered against the accused in Kotra Road police station. On the instructions of SSP Shashi Mohan Singh, the team of trainee DSP Ajay Nagvanshi and police station in-charge raided continuously to arrest the accused, but the accused was absconding.

On receiving information about the accused hiding in Jashpur on the basis of informer’s information, the police team immediately left and laid siege and took him into custody. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and accepted taking money from the victim and said that he had spent most of the amount.

A fake appointment letter was made from his cyber café and sent to Padimani Yadav. The mobile phone used in the incident and Rs 900 in cash have been seized from the possession of accused Harish Mishra, father Ravindra Mishra, age 31 years, resident of Baikunthpur, Kotwali Raigarh police station.

Police investigation has also revealed that the accused had previously worked as a servant in the Labor Department, Raigarh and there had been complaints earlier also regarding his behavior and activities.

Under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh and guidance of DSP Sushanto Banerjee, Trainee DSP Ajay Nagvanshi, Inspector Sheel Kumar Aditya, Constable Balram Sahu and Ajay Sai played an important role in the detection and arrest of the accused.

Crime DSP of Jashpur district Bhavesh Kumar Samrath and his team also had special support. Giving a strict message, SSP Shashi Mohan Singh said, “Do not trust such elements who ask for jobs, government recruitment or money on the pretext of influence.
