FIFA World Cup 2026: England beats France 6-4 to clinch third place

England recorded their best performance in the World Cup since becoming world champions in 1966 by defeating France 6-4 in a thrilling encounter in the third place match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Saturday. England had a strong hold on the match by scoring four goals in the first half itself.

Although France tried to make a strong comeback by scoring four goals in the second half, in the end Bukayo Saka scored his hat-trick goal on penalty and Jude Bellingham scored in stoppage time to seal England’s victory.

Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa also scored goals for England in the first half and gave the team a strong lead.

Mbappe tops the Golden Boot race
France captain Kylian Mbappé scored two goals in the match. With this, he became the player who scored the most goals (10) in the tournament and reached the top position in the race for the Golden Boot.

Mbappe took his total number of goals in the World Cup to 22, leaving behind Argentina star Lionel Messi (21 goals) and also took the lead in the list of highest goalscorers in World Cup history.

Olise broke Pele’s record
Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele also scored for France, while Michel Olisse assisted both of Mbappe’s goals.

With these two assists, Olise took his total to seven assists in this World Cup, surpassing Pele’s record of most assists in a single World Cup edition.
