Nepal: Video of three girls going to school in rain went viral, now they will get free education till graduation

Kathmandu. A 17-second video of three little girls going to school through a mountain path wearing raincoats amid rain in Rolpa district of Nepal has gone viral on social media.

Crores of people have watched the video and after its popularity, a big initiative has been taken regarding the education of these three girls. Now they will get free education facility till graduation.

In the video, three girls wearing pink, green and yellow raincoats are seen quietly climbing a hill to school. Someone calls out to them from behind, but they keep moving forward in their own tune without stopping. Meanwhile, a motorcycle rider also passes by and the video ends there.

This video was posted on Facebook two days ago. As of Saturday morning, it has been viewed more than 22 million times. The video has received more than 7.5 lakh reactions, more than 9,100 comments and more than 4,600 shares.

This video is from Surpal area of ​​Rantigarhi village of Rolpa district of Nepal. It was recorded by local resident Lokendra Pun (Loken Pun on Facebook).

Lokendra Pun told that he was waiting in the waiting room to send his sister to Ghorahi by bus. Then he saw three girls going to school wearing plastic and raincoats in the rain and made a video.

He said, “After seeing these innocent girls going to school in the rain, I posted the video on Facebook. I had no idea that it would get so much love.”

The three girls in the viral video are residents of Surpal in Rolpa district and study in Advanced Child Care English Boarding School. Two of these girls belong to the same family, while the third one is their neighbour. All three go to school together every day.

After the video went viral, people expressed their desire to see the faces of the girls, after which Lokendra Pun also shared a new video of them. He told that this time also the girls went straight to school without talking to the camera.

After the immense support received on social media, the local school and Rantigarhi Gram Panchayat have decided to take full responsibility for the education of the three girls.

The three girls—Manjeeta Pun, Siyan Gharti and Manjeeta Gharti—will be given free education till Class 6 in the school where they are currently studying. After this, Rantigadhi Gram Panchayat will bear the entire expense of education from class 7 to graduation.

This decision was taken on the initiative of social worker and journalist Bhuvan Thapa. On Friday, Gram Panchayat President Janak Pun, School Principal Tej Bahadur Pun, video maker Lokendra Pun and others reached the girls’ house and agreed with their parents in this regard.

The father of the three girls is abroad for employment. Two of the girls are from the same family, while the third is their neighbour. The mothers of the girls also agreed to this initiative.

School principal Tej Bahadur Pun said that his institution will bear the entire expense of the girls’ education till class 6. At the same time, Gram Panchayat President Janak Pun has made a public promise to take the responsibility of education till graduation.

Lokendra Pun said that he is happy that his video reached millions of people, but the sad thing is that many people downloaded the video and shared it on social media in their name and did not even give him credit. He says that if his Facebook page was monetized, he would have wanted to help these girls with the income.
