Vidisha. The Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh Government has declared Kagpur area located under Vidisha Forest Division of Vidisha district as Kagpur Bird Conservation Reserve. The state government has issued a notification in this regard in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 36 (A) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
Gurunar was informed by the Forest Department that the notification has been published in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette on 25 August 2026. It has been told that by declaring Kagpur as Bird Conservation Reserve, wild birds and their natural habitat will be protected in 53.5 hectare area.
According to the notification issued by the forest department, the state government, after consultation with the local communities, found the area to be important from bird conservation point of view. Kagpur area is situated between two rivers – Betwa and Bahya. There is a very ancient aquatic structure i.e. pond present here, due to which a large number of wild birds reside here.
The notification mentions that there is no forest land or forest around the proposed area. In such a situation, it was found appropriate to declare this area as a conservation reserve for the protection of the wild birds found here and their natural habitat. This decision of the government will help in the conservation of birds in the area as well as in protecting their habitat and biodiversity.
53.5 hectare area included in conservation reserve
According to the notification, the total area of Kagpur Bird Conservation Reserve is 0.535 square kilometers i.e. 53.5 hectares. This area comes under Vidisha tehsil and Vidisha forest division of Vidisha district. The reserve includes 16.860 hectares and 7.076 hectares of land of Khasra numbers 125 and 126 of village Kagpur respectively. Apart from this, 3.637, 7.357, 6.535 and 12.035 hectares of land of Khasra numbers 1, 2, 90/1 and 105 of village Gatla have been included respectively. Thus, a total of 53.5 hectares of land of different Khasra numbers has been taken under the purview of Bird Conservation Reserve.

The boundaries of the conservation reserve have also been mentioned in detail in the notification. In the northern direction, artificial boundary has been determined from point number 1 to point number 10 and the northern limit of revenue Khasra numbers 125, 126 and 105. In the eastern direction, the artificial boundary is fixed from point number 1 to point number 22 and the eastern limit of revenue Khasra number 105. In the southern direction, the artificial border from point number 22 to point number 31 and the southern border of revenue Khasra numbers 1, 2 and 90 are included. Similarly, an artificial boundary has been determined from point number 31 to point number 1 in the western direction and the western boundary of revenue Khasra numbers 1, 125 and 126.

Geographical coordinates have also been mentioned in the notification to clearly mark the boundary of Kagpur Bird Conservation Reserve. Among these, the main point of north direction is 23°44’45.18″ latitude and 77°48’24.72″ longitude, the point of east direction is 23°44’40.45″ latitude and 77°49’02.88″ longitude, the point of south direction is 23°44’26.90″ latitude and 77°48’48.81″ longitude and the point of west direction is 23°44’27.56″ latitude and 77°48’17.71″ longitude have been recorded.
