Jerusalem. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected allegations of persecution of the Christian community in the country, calling them ‘lies’. He said that Israel protects Christians and people of the country’s Christian community also contribute to Israel’s security.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a proposed monument in memory of Arabic-speaking Christian Israeli soldiers, Netanyahu said a global campaign was being launched against Israel and its military. According to him, in this campaign Israel is being accused of war crimes and oppression of minorities.
Describing Israel as a center of progress, tolerance and security, Netanyahu said that the country is committed to the protection of minority communities. He also reiterated Israel’s commitment to the security of the Druze community in Syria.
He said the memorial ceremony symbolizes a rejection of allegations that Israel targets Christians.
The Prime Minister claimed that Israel is the only place in the Middle East where the Christian community is continuously growing and flourishing. He said Christians in other parts of the region are reportedly facing persecution, migration or violence.
