India expressed solidarity with Kenya in dealing with Ebola

Nairobi. India has expressed solidarity with Kenya in its efforts to combat the Ebola virus and reiterated its commitment to continue cooperation in public health preparedness and emergency response.

The Indian High Commission in Kenya said that India is committed to further strengthening the longstanding cooperation between the two countries in the health sector.

The Indian High Commission made this statement after Kenya’s Health Ministry confirmed Ebola infection in a traveler from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The infected passenger died on 06 October. The Kenyan health ministry said it was an imported case and did not indicate widespread infection in the country.

India has also provided 6,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to Kenya to combat Ebola. Health Minister Aiden Duale briefed the country’s preparations in a meeting with diplomats, international organizations and development partners.

The National Emergency Management System has been operational in Kenya since May 2026 and national and county level emergency response units have been put on alert. Surveillance has been increased in health centers and communities and rapid response teams are deployed to investigate possible cases.

According to the ministry, 4,971 health workers have been trained to prevent and combat Ebola. Testing is ongoing at 15 entry points into the country and more than 6.52 lakh passengers have been screened so far.
