Leafy greens and cabbage banned in schools of Bihar due to fear of insects and fungus, strict order from education department
Daughter. Special vigilance will be taken in the Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme run in government schools regarding the food of children during monsoon. During this period, vegetables like ladyfinger, brinjal, all types of leafy greens and cabbage will not be given to children in schools. MDM Director Vinayak Mishra has issued instructions to ban the use of these vegetables with immediate effect, keeping in mind the safety of children’s health.

District Program Officer (MDM) Kumkum Pathak said that through departmental order, all the head teachers have been informed that ladyfinger, brinjal, leafy greens and cabbage should not be used in the mid-day meal under any circumstances during the rainy season. Because during the rainy season, there is a greater possibility of infection, germs and fungus growing in these vegetables. Due to which there is a possibility of food poisoning.
There will be a close watch on food items and cleanliness
Apart from this, it will be mandatory for all schools to check the quality of all food items including grains, pulses, spices before using them. Also, canned food items will be used after checking the expiry date. Also, food items will have to be protected from moisture and proper storage arrangements will have to be ensured. Apart from this, instructions have been given for regular cleaning of school premises, kitchen, utensils, drinking water source and toilets. It will be mandatory to wash hands with soap before serving food to children.
