BCCI Banned 64 Players: BCCI has taken a big step in the matter of age fraud and has decided to ban more than 60 players together. Everyone is surprised after this decision of the board. This irregularity came to light when the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) conducted a pre-season documents drive for its players. The name of Ravi Kumar, who was included in the Under-19 World Cup 2022, is also included in the list of players faking their age.

In an important development, BCCI has banned U19 leg-spinner Rohit Yadav for two years for age fraud. It is noteworthy that Rohit Yadav was a part of the India U19 team that went on the recent tour of Sri Lanka in July. The case of age fraud came to light when CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) conducted a pre-season documentation drive for its players. India U19 were scheduled to play five ODIs and three multi-day matches against Australia in late September, and Rohit has been dropped from the team for these matches.

Apart from this, CAB has also banned 64 other players due to similar difference in age. An important name in this list is that of Ravi Kumar. This left-arm fast bowler was a part of the Indian team that won the U19 World Cup in 2022. Ravi Kumar also made his debut in the senior team for Bengal in the same year, but last played in 2023.

Rohit was dropped from the team

Rohit Yadav of the U-19 team is also included in the players who have been banned by BCCI. Rohit had also cheated on his age. In this, when CAB recently conducted a pre-season documentation drive regarding its players, the name of leg spinner Rohit Yadav also appeared in it. According to CAB, their age difference was found to be 27 months. This ban has come into effect immediately and all the state units associated with BCCI have also been informed about it. After this, Rohit has been dropped from the Indian Under-19 team, who was selected in the squad to play five one-day and two multi-day matches against the Australia Under-19 team.

BCCI reacts to age fraud cases

Interestingly, for the last few years, BCCI has been trying to deal with the increasing cases of age fraud in various ways. In 2020, the BCCI had proposed an amnesty scheme, in which the board announced a punishment system.

Under this scheme, players had the option to self-report age-related violations and avoid suspension. However, if they did not provide information and were found violating the rules, they would have to face a ban.

Additionally, now as part of the age verification process, U19 players are required to submit as many educational certificates as possible along with their birth certificate.

Everyone is surprised to see the records of 12 age-group cricketers included in the list of Bengal Cricket Association. There is a difference of 115 months (more than 9.5 years) in the age of Arun Kumar Chaurasia. At the same time, there was a difference of more than 8 years in the age of Mahipal Yadav. Apart from this, a difference of 57 months has been found in the age of Prabhat Maurya. The names of Amrit Raj Upadhyay (48 months), Dilshad Khan (46 months), Anubhav Tyagi (36 months), Kunal Kumar (35 months), Vineet Maurya (32 months), Kushal Gupta (26 months) and Parmit Singh (12 months) are also included in this list.
