BCCI tightens its grip on players’ fitness, implements new rule: 2km run to be completed in 10 minutes

BCCI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has implemented new fitness rules for players. Passing fitness tests has become even more difficult for Indian team players. Players will now have to meet even stricter fitness standards to be selected for the team. According to reports, the board made this decision due to India’s poor fielding performance during their tours of Ireland and England.

Fitness test will have to be passed in 2 stages

According to the BCCI’s new rules, Indian team players will now have to pass a two-stage fitness test to prove their fitness. In addition to the Bronco test, they will also have to complete a 2-kilometer run. Under the new protocol, players will now be required to complete the 2-kilometer run within a prescribed time limit. The BCCI’s Center of Excellence has set a time limit of 9-10 minutes. This means that players will have to complete the 2-kilometer run in 10 minutes.

Must pass Bronco test

Fitness testing drills were modified last year after Adrian Le Roux became the strength and conditioning coach. It was after his arrival that the BCCI introduced the Bronco Test. This requires players to complete repeated shuttle runs on a 60-meter course, covering a total distance of 1,200 meters without a break. The test was originally scheduled for six minutes, but has now been reduced from 5 minutes 15 seconds to 5 minutes 20 seconds. Following this test, players will also be required to complete a 2km run.

Why is BCCI strict?

According to media reports, some players were given easier fitness tests. Reports even claim that staff at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru granted fitness clearance to Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana despite them not being fully fit, angering the BCCI. Now, the board has tightened its stance by establishing new fitness rules.
