Patna: The government has laid emphasis on a big plan to deal with floods in Bihar as well as to strengthen road connectivity. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has given instructions to work towards strengthening the embankments along the banks of Ganga, Kosi and Gandak rivers and developing four-lane roads on them.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for double sheet piling in the sensitive part of the initial 100 kilometers of Kosi area. Apart from this, it has been asked to make a long term plan for permanent solution to floods and pay special attention to the management of silt coming out of the river.
Many schemes were reviewed
Apart from projects related to Ganga, Gandak and Kosi rivers, the progress of Buxar-Bhagalpur Greenfield Expressway, Peerpainti Power Plant and PM Kusum Yojana was reviewed in the meeting. The Chief Minister also directed to speed up the work of operating government tube wells with solar energy.
To reduce the risk of floods in the Kosi region, it has been asked to develop multi-district river corridor, take necessary action towards new barrages and increase work on silt management. Instructions were also given to work on the possibilities of setting up solar plants on the embankments of the Gandak River.
Expressway projects also accelerated
During the review of the Road Construction Department, the progress of Buxar-Bhagalpur Six Lane Greenfield Expressway was also discussed. The total length of the project is about 348 kilometers, of which most part falls in Bihar and some part in Uttar Pradesh.
Along with this, projects like Ganga Ambika Path, Narayani Path and Vishwamitra Path were also reviewed. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to speed up the construction works and complete the projects within the stipulated time.
