Extra Luggage in Train Online Booking: Indian Railways has taken a significant step towards increasing passenger convenience. Now, train passengers will be able to book their extra luggage online, similar to air travel. The Railway Board has implemented a new policy in this regard, effective July 31, 2026. This will eliminate the need for passengers to visit the parcel counter at the railway station to book extra luggage.

Under the new system, passengers will be able to pay the excess baggage fee online by entering the details of the excess baggage at the time of ticket booking or later on through IRCTC or the railway’s parcel portal. This will make the travel process easier, faster, and more transparent.

Which passengers will get the benefit?

This facility will only be available to passengers with confirmed reserved tickets. Currently, this facility is available in the following classes: AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, First Class, Sleeper Class, and Second Class.
