New Delhi, 19 September 2026: An important step has been taken by AIIMS, New Delhi to make the diagnosis and screening of breast cancer more accurate through Artificial Intelligence (AI). The AI based 'Mammography Technology' developed by the experts of AIIMS has been officially transferred to the technical partner 'BPL Technologies Limited'. This technology will help radiologists in separating mammography reports and images.
According to the information given by AIIMS, Professor Nikil Tandon, Director of AIIMS New Delhi and Ajay Jindal, CFO of BPL Technologies Limited were present in a special program organized recently. Apart from this, senior officials and medical experts of Research and Radiology Department of AIIMS were also present on the occasion.
Mammography is a very important imaging technique used for early diagnosis of breast cancer. By closely examining the images taken during this test, radiologists identify possible abnormalities or tumors. This newly developed AI based system will help doctors in taking faster and accurate decisions in this process.

This AI model will provide support to radiologists in understanding and analyzing mammography images. This technology can prove to be very useful, especially in areas where there is a shortage of specialist radiologists and breast imaging specialists. However, AIIMS has clarified that this AI model is not a substitute for doctors, but is only a technical support to make the decisions of radiologists more accurate.
This agreement between AIIMS and BPL Technologies is considered a major step towards converting medical research into applied health services. Now after handing over the technology to the company, further steps will be taken for its further development, verification and clinical use.
Professor Nikil Tandon, Director of AIIMS, said, “The real benefits of research conducted in medical institutions can reach the common people only when it is converted into practical and comprehensive healthcare technology.” He expressed hope that this initiative will pave the way for development of more and more such innovative technologies in AIIMS in future also.
