'Bigg Boss 20' Qazi Touqeer opens up about rejecting Ekta Kapoor's drama offer

Qazi Touqeer, who gained popularity after winning Fame Gurukul alongside Ruprekha Banerjee in 2005, revisited an interesting phase of his career during a conversation with fellow Bigg Boss 20 contestant Aamrapali Dubey.

After his reality show victory, the 40-year-old Indian singer back then, found himself receiving multiple acting offers, one of which came from producer Ektaa R Kapoor.

Looking back at their encounter, he shared that the 57-year-old Indian producer offered him a TV show revolving around a rockstar.

Despite the exciting offer, the then 20-year-old singer found it difficult to understand the character Ektaa had in mind.

Not knowing how to politely decline the offer, the singer turned to Anupama, who was with him at the meeting, and asked her to communicate his decision.

The Phantom actor clarified that he couldn’t accept the TV show because he had already signed a contract for a film project.

Qazi said his decision was accepted without any fuss at first, making what happened the following morning all the more unexpected.

The singer recalled how the media coverage made it seem as though he had rejected Ektaa R Kapoor because he had a more lucrative opportunity lined up.

Describing what was written about him, he quoted the reports as saying, “Qazi ditched Ekta Kapoor. Qazi has a bigger fish to fry.”

He revealed that the reports damaged his public image, leaving him with little chance to clarify his side of the story.

He also stressed that the absence of social media meant he had no easy way to respond to the coverage or challenge how his decision was being portrayed.
