BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’: BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ in Trinamool too; Delhi formula to be repeated in Bengal
- In the Bengal Assembly results, the BJP won 294 out of 294 seats, ending Trinamool’s 15-year rule.
- As the BJP has already tried this formula in Delhi, there is talk of ‘Operation Lotus’ in the Trinamool Congress as well.
- ‘Operation Lotus’ was carried out under the pressure of Indi and CBI
BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus: In the Delhi Bengal Assembly results, the BJP won 294 out of 294 seats, ending Trinamool’s 15-year rule. The Trinamool had to settle for 80 seats and could not even open an account in nine districts. Fifteen days after the results, rumors of post-election violence and defection heated up the political atmosphere. On 20 May, only 34 Trinamool MLAs protested in the Assembly. The BJP claims that MLAs started defecting as soon as they lost power.
Meanwhile, news of Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar getting ‘Y’ category central security from May 19 added fuel to the fire. This happened after Mamata Banerjee removed him from the post of Chief Pratod in the Lok Sabha and handed over the responsibility to Kalyan Banerjee. In political circles, it is being called the security cover before ‘Operation Lotus’.

‘Lotus’ bloomed in ‘Aap’
As the BJP has already tried this formula in Delhi, the Trinamool Congress is also talking about ‘Operation Lotus’. On April 2, 2026, AAP removed Raghav Chadha from the post of Deputy Leader of the Rajya Sabha and handed over this responsibility to Ashok Mittal. However, on April 15, the ED raided MP Ashok Mittal’s house. Ten days later, Mittal joined the BJP.
On 24 April, Raghav Chadha held a press conference to announce that seven of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs – Chadda, Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahni and Swati Maliwal – were merging with the BJP. Hence BJP’s strength in Rajya Sabha increased to 113.
With the help of Chandrababu, the center can be given a shock
The Church of ‘Operation Lotus’ is gaining momentum in the Trinamool, as Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee has started trying to persuade Taidya chief Chandrababu Naidu to topple the Modi government. In the wake of these developments, BJP strategists are reportedly intensifying their efforts to capitalize on the growing discontent within the Trinamool Congress.
“Ask those who call me a traitor, how many Rajya Sabha seats were sold to?”; Harbhajan Singh was furious at the MP’s resignation
While BJP strategists are confident that Chandrababu Naidu will stay with the Modi government, the BJP is trying to increase its number of MPs in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the principle of ‘who can change color anytime in politics’. Currently, the Trinamool Congress has 29 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 13 in the Rajya Sabha.
Opposition parties have alleged that ‘Operation Lotus’ is being implemented under pressure from Indi and CBI. AAP MP Sanjay Singh challenged the merger, but failed. BJP’s Kiren Rijiju termed the defection of seven MPs as a step towards nation building. Now the same question is being raised in Bengal too. Is Y-Security, Removal of MLAs and their Absence Part of Operation Lotus Part 2?
