Automobile Desk – BMW i7 Facelift (2026) Launch: Luxury car manufacturer BMW has officially launched the new facelift avatar of its flagship electric sedan BMW i7 in the Indian automobile market. This time the company has made many major changes in the looks of the car as well as its battery technology, range and features. What's most interesting is that the price of its entry-level model has been cut compared to the older generation, making it more competitive in the premium segment.
Mathematics of price and variants
The new BMW i7 is offered in two key variants—eDrive50 and the performance-focused M70 xDrive. In India, the eDrive50 variant is being locally assembled (CKD) at the BMW plant in Chennai, with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 1.95 crore. It is about Rs 15 lakh cheaper than the previous model.
On the other hand, the M70 xDrive variant with more power and all-wheel drive capability is being imported as a completely built unit (CBU). Its ex-showroom price has been kept at Rs 2.65 crore. With a starting price of Rs 1.95 crore, the eDrive50 model of the i7 now comes at par with its petrol counterpart, the 7-Series 740i.
Battery capacity and driving range
The biggest highlight of the facelifted i7 is its upgraded battery pack. It includes a new massive 112.5kWh battery pack in place of the old 101.7kWh battery.
i7 eDrive50: Claims to cover a range of up to 728 kilometers on a single charge as per WLTP standards. This is about 125 kilometers more than the old model.
i7 M70 xDrive: Despite being a high-performance model, it offers a certified range of 686 kilometers on a single charge.
Fast charging and power performance
The new battery now supports DC fast charging with a capacity of 250kW. With a compatible super-fast charger, this car can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes. If you are short on time, this car can get enough energy to drive approximately 235 kilometers in just 10 minutes of plug-in charging. For daily use, the company is also providing a 22kW AC wall-box charger and its installation, due to which full charging is possible at home in 6 hours.
Talking about performance, the electric motor of eDrive50 produces 455bhp of power and 600Nm of torque, due to which this heavy sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The M70 xDrive has a dual-motor setup, which generates power of 680hp and huge torque of 1,100Nm in sports boost mode. This variant touches the speed of 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
Design and ultra-luxury cabin
The exterior design of the car has a new illuminated grille, sleek split LED headlamps and re-designed bumpers. The M70 variant gets spotty 21-inch alloy wheels and large air ducts.
The real magic is seen inside the cabin. A new Panoramic Vision Display has been added just below the windscreen in place of the traditional dashboard. The center console has a 17.9-inch main infotainment system and a separate 14.6-inch screen for the co-driver.
Rear seat passengers get a 31.3-inch 8K theater screen, a Dolby Atmos sound system from Bowers & Wilkins, a panoramic glass roof with more than 40 LEDs, and ventilated massage seats. Safety features like automatic powered doors and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) make this sedan the new benchmark of luxury.
